The Schermerhorn Symphony Center
Location: Nashville, TN
Size: 197,000 GSF
Cost: $120,000,000
This project consists of a world-class concert hall located in downtown Nashville. The neocloassical four-story limestone building features a 180-ft long colonnade on the building's west front facing Nashville's Gateway Park. The building contains seven levels within a four story facade to accommodate access at different levels to the concert halls and the surrounding public space. The concert hall includes a convertible seating system which allows the concert hall to be converted from a raked seating layout for performances to a flat floor arrangement to create ballroom space. This is done mechanically within approximately two hours using fixed seating on chair wagons which are mechanically driven on tracks to a lift which lowers the wagons to allow storage of the seats below the concert hall floor. In addition to the main 1,872-seat performance hall, a 3,000-gsf classroom is included, expanding the educational outreach programs. The stage will accommodate 115 musicians and include 150 choral seats behind the stage.
